Staub’s Solution
Staub engineers, quality specialists, and automation experts collaborated to address the inspection challenges. They transitioned from traditional mechanical clamping to magnetic field fixturing, which significantly reduced loading time. Additionally, they designed new inspection fixtures for the CMM to handle multiple planes of the components, incorporating a “star” probe to allow 100% inspection in one operation. However, meeting weekly production requirements for all component variations necessitated automation. The SCARA robot and universal fixture designs streamlined inspection operations, minimized human intervention, and reduced labor-intensive changeovers.
Result
The implementation of C.A.R.L. transformed Staub’s quality control process. A complete run of 800 pieces now takes just 32 hours, with minimal human involvement—operators load parts three days a week, press a button, and let C.A.R.L. handle the rest. This innovation eliminated the need for constant manual oversight, enabled Staub to meet growing customer demands, and assured quality through automated segregation of failed parts. Staub successfully delivered precise, high-quality components while significantly improving efficiency and competitiveness in the Aerospace industry.
